Pet Wellness Fair 2011

Westside Family Pet Clinic (WFPC) will be holding their 2nd Annual Pet Wellness Fair on October 29th, 2011 from 1 to 3 PM. The Fair/open house will focus on preventative health for pets including annual wellness examinations, lifestyle based vaccinations and parasite control, nutrition, and evidence based supplements.

Receive a Pet Wellness Score Paw to be stamped at our 5 Wellness Stations (lifestage, body condition, muscle condition, pain and dentistry) and be entered in a drawing for over $1000 in pet related prizes! The Fair is FREE and open to the public. Don’t forget to bring your pet!

Proceeds will be based on how many Pet Wellness Score Paws are completed and will be distributed between our featured rescues:  Grey Muzzle, Dane County Friends of Ferals, and the Dane County Humane Society.

“Pet wellness, beginning with annual examinations, is the best way to insure pets live long and healthy lives. There are so many easy and cost effective ways a pet owner can prevent disease at this point in time,” says Ken Lambrecht, DVM Medical Director of Westside Family Pet Clinic.

“Cats in particular have not fared well in recent years in receiving the necessary care they deserve. Part of this is related to the challenges faced in getting a cat to the veterinarian and in large, the fact that cats are excellent deceivers. They hide their pain and illness until it is quite advanced. Annual wellness exams are a vital part of dog and cat health and can detect the early onset of disease/pain. These exams can protect the family from pet carried illnesses too!”

The 2011 Pet Wellness Fair will include:

Five Pet Wellness stations where participants can get their Pet “Score Paws” stamped.  Drs. Ken Lambrecht, Sarah Kalstrup, Katie Grawe, Tina Karls, & Deanna Clark, along with other guest veterinarians and our staff of Certified Veterinary Technicians, Assistants, and vendors will be on hand to answer virtually any pet wellness question.

Groomers & Fitness Trainers from Pet Styles & 4 Paws Swim and Fitness will be on hand to provide fitness and pet rehabilitation demonstrations, as well as provide a nail trimming or ear cleaning with a donation to our featured rescues.

We hope you can join us!

AAHA Accreditation

Accreditation by AAHA is only achieved by 15% of veterinary clinics AAHA_tC_2nationwide. It is a voluntary inspection, consultation and standardization process that no other profession (medical, dental, chiropractic etc) has.

Successful accreditation requires passing over 900 individual standards ranging from how we store and regulate our medications to how we administer anesthesia and keep our hospital sanitary.

These standards are there for one reason…to elevate the quality of pet care we deliver. Our clinic has been accredited since 1995 and is one of just 6 clinics in Madison (including the UW Veterinary School) to achieve accredited status.

The re-accreditation process takes place every three years and this year was our first re-accreditation since moving to our new facility. Standards are upgraded every year to raise the bar for the delivery of excellent pet care.

Tick, Flea & Heartworm Prevention

Combined Tick, Flea & Heartworm Prevention

The American Heartworm Society, the CDC, and the CAPC are unanimous in their recommendation to protect pets year round from all internal parasites at the same time as preventing heartworms.

Their recommendations are based on:
Ticks seen when there is still snow on the ground, indoor mosquitoes & insects, and parasites brought indoors by foot traffic are all instances where year-round transfer of parasites can occur even though the pet is not outside.

It is difficult if not impossible with ever changing weather patterns to determine when the risk is present and when it isn’t

Studies have shown that compliance is much higher when the monthly routine is followed year-round.

Our recommendation for Dogs:

Heartgard® used monthly year-round to prevent heartworms as well as hookworms, & roundworms. Supplies one of the best guarantees, product palatability and spectrum of activity as well as a 12 year history of safe administration and effectiveness.

Used concurrently with….

Frontline® used monthly year round as this product has the best label protection against the ticks that carry disease and is highly waterproof. An excellent safety record, a satisfaction back guarantee and an easy and aesthetic application process have kept this product our favorite for the past 8 years. It is a much more effective and safer product than permethrin (which is deadly to cats).

***********************************************************************
Our recommendation for Cats:

Revolution® used monthly year round as it has a very broad spectrum of activity and fleas, ticks, heartworms, and internal parasites and is very safe in a species that is known for its sensitivity to medications. Its effectiveness, ease of use and company guarantee makes this our preferred choice for both outdoor & indoor cats. (28% of cats that had heartworms infections in a recent study were indoor only cats)

The new heartworm test for cats is available and now every time we test your cat for feline leukemia & FIV virus we will check them for this dangerous parasite.

20 years of customer satisfaction

“I’ve been associated with the clinic since Dr. Lambrecht took over the clinic about 20 years ago. I was impressed at how gentle he was with my puppies who were afraid of the previous clinic’s veterinarians…”

– Joanne Vanderhoef
