Anesthesia Monitoring
We have taken considerable precautions in the form of computerized monitors, extensive staff training and constant vigilance so that we can safely anesthetize older pets and those with advanced dental or other medical problems.
We take the following precautions in all pets undergoing anesthesia at our clinic:
• IV catherization-to allow rapid fluid or drug administration.
• Preanesthetic medication-to allow lower doses of “induction agents that can lower blood pressure.
• Blood pressure monitoring- to allow early detection of any problems.
• Electrocardiogram monitoring- to detect any heart arrhythmias.
• Pulse oximeter- to detect tissue perfusion problems.
In addition, pets over 10 years of age or at higher risk will receive:
• Inhalation gas analyzer to insure pinpoint control of inhaled anesthetic gases
• CO2 monitoring to detect respiration problems
• A second blood pressure unit to automatically take BP by the minute
